Part of the ancient city of Thebes, Luxor is a major tourist attraction, specially for those interested in ancient Egypt history. The area is exceptionally rich with temples, tombs and monuments that are worth seeing, and the town has a range of souvenir shops, hotels and restaurants. See the impressive structures of the temples of Luxor and of Karnak, which are within the town itself. Then proceed to the other attractions that lie on the west bank across the Nile: the funerary complexes of the tombs of the Nobles, the Valley of the Kings, and Valley of the Queens, all of which relate the fascinating story of ancient royalty. Within Luxor, there are only three main streets: Sharia al-Mahatta, Sharia al-Karnak and the Corniched. Along the Sharia al-Karnak you will find restaurants and cafes, as well as bazaars where typical Egyptian souvenirs can be found.
